forgivemeforhiscrimes: (Tranquil as a forest)
Okay, maybe not so much an HMD as just a general comment post, since I created this character and all. But got something to say about Legato? Here's your chance! Anon is on, IP logging is off, and comments are screened.

Legato's Powers
Being the son of Bass and trained by some of the best fighters in his RP universe, Legato can be quite a formidable foe. This gives an overview of what he can and can't do, and the ways to go around some of them.

Any extremes taken with any of these abilities (maiming, death, etc), as well as ANY uses of Get Ability, will be cleared with mun permission beforehand.

Elements
The main way Legato fights is by being a bender. No, I mean that. Watch him go through Tai-chi type moves while manipulating water and tell me he's not a bender. Basically this part of his powers entails usage of the main elements, though he does have his favorites. All of these have "tells" in his eyes for when he uses the ability set. The main ones he uses and their associated colors are:

Water
He can take and shape water in the vicinity to create whips, spheres and in a pinch, shields (though this is mostly only a thick wall of water against sound-based attacks; Kat taught him that one). Water's mostly used for attacking from afar. Watch for a bright blue flash in his eyes.

Air
An exclusively non-lethal moveset, Legato mostly uses this out of desperation, or when he wants to KO someone but not kill them. His main technique here are balls of air to slam into his opponent and knock them down, though he's not above "grabbing" at air to trip people up. This causes a white flash in his eyes.

Fire
This is about what you'd expect. Gouts of flame from, and controlled by, his hands. This is mostly used to add power and extra hurt to his punches. There's two types of flame he uses: general fire and shadow/Dark fire, the latter being quite obviously purple. The dark flames are also his default; only the orange flame shows in his eyes.

Plants
Legato's favorite method (no surprise there, as he's a battle botanist), and another non-lethal moveset. The main thing to watch out for here are countless vines of varying sizes summoned from the ground to ensnare his foes, though they can also be used to whip and spear. This is signified by the color green, obviously.

Darkness
A relatively unused skill set, his only real techniques in this area are passive (and covered below). The one combat move he has that he uses is the Shadowclone technique, a rather new addition and one he's not very skilled in yet. If the Legato you're fighting suddenly dissolves into shadowy muck, he was using Shadowclone, and the real one is hidden somewhere in the vicinity. This one causes a red eye flash.

Telekinesis
Another relatively new one, having just gotten the hang of this not long before arriving in the city. He doesn't use it in battle much, but when he does it's used like secondary Air attacks: disabling or removing the foe rather than trying to injure them. Telekinesis flashes his eyes purple.

Navi Abilities
Being half Net Navi, he's also got data on-board to use Battlechip attacks. The only ones he ever really uses are the Sword class chips, to augment his rather lacking melee area. These (except for Muramasa) transform his arm from the elbow down into the sword of choice; Muramasa is an actual katana that can be held with both hands. Watch out for this one, as in the games it gets stronger the weaker Legato is.

Hell's Rolling
The only outright attack of Bass's that Legato inherited, these are purple energy saw blades that whirl around his wrists before being flung. They have a slight ability to track whoever he's fighting, being able to turn once before continuing on in a straight line.

Earthbreaker
Though he didn't inherit it he did steal it. This is perhaps his rarest used attack, maybe seen only once- during a duel with Crmsn. This is the UTMOST desperation, as it's solely a killshot.

Cross Fusion
While this won't be an issue in Ink City, for the sake of completeness it's included here. Back home Legato has a Net Navi called Blizzardman, whom he can fuse with. They mostly use this for fighting on the net, although he's also been known to use the Ice-based fusion to power-up his Water moves.

Recovery
Power gleaned from a, well, Recovery chip. This is exactly what it sounds like. If he concentrates, he can use this on others.

Beast Out
Legato can, though he rarely does, use the Beast Out form. His is Falzer, and comes with all the inherent advantages and disadvantages laid out on the wiki page. If tired/injured when attempting to use this, he will automatically go into the berserker Beast Over stage; beware.

Get Ability
A skill passed down to him from Bass, though Legato's extra data has changed it. Besides being able to steal specific attacks (reviewed in a moment), Legato can also take the element of whatever he's being attacked with and use it to augment or temporarily replace any of his main types.

The real feature of Get Ability, however, is being able to take an actual move of his opponent's and turn it against them. With very few exceptions he doesn't keep the attack beyond the end of the battle. This only happens through extended contact with his hands, so as long as you keep Legato's hands off of you (hur) you're fine.

Phantomon
Thanks to the Digimon DNA in his mother (don't ask), Legato, as do his siblings, has the ability to become a Digimon. Unlike his siblings (particularly Deiji) Legato only has the one form, not known to Digivolve to or from anything else, so far as he's displayed. This form is Phantomon and is only used in ABSOLUTE emergencies (as Phanto's definitely lethal) or when fighting another Digimon.

Passive
Abilities that he uses in or out of battle that have no real effect on his opponent.

Shadowwalking
What looks like teleportation is actually Legato moving through the inherent shadows in an area. He can disappear and reappear silently, though there's a big visual clue. Whether coming or going there will be a cloud of shadowy purple vapor. The light level in an area has no bearing over this ability, though he can be "locked" out of the shadows by someone sufficiently skilled in manipulating Darkness.

Fall Reflex
Similar to the above, whenever Legato is falling he will disappear right when you'd expect him to hit the ground, to reappear on his feet (and somewhat shaken) somewhere nearby. If he's tired/injured then this will fail.

Senses
Legato has an excellent sense of hearing, something that can be taken advantage of by sonic attacks (think Screech). He also has the ability to pick up whenever certain power signatures are in the area, though this mostly only involves Bass Net Navis and the odd person that he grew up with.

Permissions
If there's anything you can think of about how your character will or won't be affected by any of these, or you'd like to note something when fighting Legato, then please put it on this post.
forgivemeforhiscrimes: (A little bit country)
Legato's greenhouse is of a pretty fair size, having been previously housed on top of one of the towers of the massive skyscraper complex that is URNNAI, though it's smaller than the house it now sits beside. It's of the long rectangular shape, and grows all sorts of plants almost regardless of season.

Known plants include several medicinal varieties (mint, chamomile, and the like), raised plot boxes of strawberries in the back (courtesy of Ichigo), and several intelligent predatory plants in one corner. There's a coat hook by the front door, and hard supplies are kept on a table by the door. Bags of soil and other similar soft supplies are kept under tables throughout the greenhouse.

forgivemeforhiscrimes: (Intense stare)
In a way, both of them knew this meeting was coming. Bass had been tipped off by voices he barely listened to, and Legato had been given an oblique description by someone that, even with its haziness, could have only been one person. However, whereas Legato knew it would be Bass, Bass had no idea it would be his son, just that it was someone he knew.

So it was with marked surprise that he stared at Legato from his vantage point near the Well. But no, this was not the Legato he had left behind, nor was it a time-traveling Legato he had met before back home. He was an adult, and while time-travel might have been an issue he had a feeling it was more due to others.

He couldn't exactly describe why he was hanging back. The meeting would be awkward to be sure, but it would be worth it. Wouldn't it? Yet Bass still remained where he was, watching in silence as Legato appeared to be speaking on the communicator, though he was too far away for words to be heard. With a sigh, Bass closed his eyes.

"You weren't even going to say hello?"

Bass didn't start at the voice, but it was still a few moments before he turned to face Legato standing behind him. When at last he did, the other man blinked twice, then put a hand to his head with an exasperated sigh.

"Great. More timeline warping..."

"To you only, it seems," Bass stated. "Crmsn is as I remember him."

"Figures." Legato stood with a hand over his eyes for a bit, then looked up. "So how long have you been trapped here?"

"Ages, it seems."

That tone caused a twinge of worry in the younger's chest, though he didn't comment. Instead he smiled, although it was a bit of a sad one. "Well nevertheless... I'm glad you're here." He laughed a bit, without humor. "I've gotten kind of used to you hanging around, it'd be weird not to have you there."

Bass stared him down for a long moment. "How old are you?"

"25. You?"

"...38."

After a quick bit of mental math, Legato stared. "That..."

"...was before I returned to you, yes."

Another moment while his mind worked out the time paradox there. Oh right, that midnight talk way back when... He shook his head and sighed a little. "Not a Bass I'm used to talking to."

There was a ghost of a smile on the Black Shadow's face. "I guess it'll have to do."

Legato blinked, then chuckled a little and walked forward. Joining Bass at the edge of a nondescript rooftop he looked out into the city. He glanced over out of the corners of his eyes as Bass turned to look the same way, and he smiled slightly to himself. Even if it was going to be difficult overcoming the years' difference, standing here beside Bass felt comforting.

"Think you can fill me in about the city some?"

"I can try." Bass grunted a little, looking suddenly bitter. "But I doubt you'll like what I say." He paused sharply and glanced off, his expression becoming briefly distant. With a faint smirk he turned back and started walking off. "Later, however. At the moment you have something to prepare for."

Legato blinked twice and stared around after him in abject confusion. "Wha... Wait, what? What kind of something?" He was only met with a mischievous, knowing smirk. Just what was Bass in on that he wasn't in on? "What do you mean??"

Bass only continued to smirk. "You may see. Eventually." With that he disappeared, leaving off to wherever, leaving Legato to continue to look on. Shaking his head he looked out over the city again and sighed.

What in the world was going on here?
